American Red Cross is a family and the service member
during
times of crisis; helping the family and service
member cope with problems created by separation.
OApproximately
50% of military forces are now in the National Guard or
Reserves.
OThere
are more women in the Reserves that in Active Service;
20% of Reservists called up to Active Duty are women.
OThere
are more married couples who are simultaneously in the
Reserves than dual career military couples.
O35,000
National Guard and Reserve members are on active duty,
on any given day in 77 countries.
OThe
majority of Reservists, when called up, get paid at
their rank, regardless of their civilian salary. This
can cause tremendous hardship on some families,
especially if they are deployed for six months or more.
OThose
in need of Red Cross AFES services are from the lowest
ranking segment of the military population (E1-E4).
